Trips outside of Prague

Prague is beautiful and there are certainly many sights and places to see, but sometimes you just want to go somewhere in nature. Here are a few places that are close to Prague and worth a visit.

The extant buildings of Sázava Monastery showcase a blend of architectural styles reflecting its long history. While primarily Baroque due to a significant reconstruction in the 17th century, you can still find remnants of earlier Gothic architecture from the 13th and 14th centuries, most notably in the unfinished three-nave basilica. Later additions in the 19th century introduced Neo-Renaissance elements.

Castle Karlštejn

Karlštejn Castle stands as one of the most impressive and historically significant castles in the Czech Republic. Perched atop a picturesque hill overlooking the Berounka River, about 30 kilometers southwest of Prague, it was founded in 1348 by Charles IV, King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor.

Unlike many castles built for strategic or residential purposes, Karlštejn served a very specific and highly important function: it was designed to safeguard the Bohemian Crown Jewels, the holy relics of the Holy Roman Empire, and Charles IV’s personal treasures.
