Trip to Sazava Monastery

Prague is undoubtedly full of interesting places, but its surroundings also offer many opportunities to visit, and some of them can be combined into a pleasant trip with a walk in nature. One such place is the Sázava Monastery, whose rich history is associated with Saint Prokop and a somewhat peculiar attitude towards evil in the form of the corresponding demonic beings. Saint Prokop, the founder of this important pilgrimage site, religious order, and parish, settled his accounts with these Jungian shadows in a very practical way, harnessing them to the plow and making them his assistants in agricultural activities.

The journey to the monastery begins in Prague at the main train station, where we set off towards Čerčany, we recommend choosing the scenic route via Davle.

This beautiful rail provides beautiful views of the meanders of the Sázava River and crosses one of the highest railway bridges in Europe at Žampach. If you don’t want to spend two hours on the train, you can use the express train to Čerčany via Mirošovice and you will be there much faster. In Čerčany you will change to a local train to the town of Sázava, which is a continuation of the poetic section of the line along the Sázava River.

Get off at the Sázava station – stop and walk a comfortable kilometer, maybe two from the station to the monastery.

The monastery offers two sightseeing tours, the Convent and the Church. Both tours are worth seeing, the monastery church is a truly richly decorated space that will amaze you with its Baroque beauty. The tour also includes the newly reconstructed organ, the jewelry box and the crypt with the remains of Saint Procopius

When you finish your tour of the monastery and you are still full of energy, you can visit the glassmaking museum, which can also be seen in Sázava, and if you are hungry after the tour, you will definitely appreciate the Za Vodou restaurant, where your hunger will be easily satisfied.

You can get home in the same direction, unless you want to continue by train to Český Šternberk Castle, which is also worth a visit. We can talk about that in another trip
